Firstly, I’m honoured to have received an award from my fellow mad scientist Ulixis. I’ve only been blogging for a few weeks, so this is a real thrill! I will pass it on to 7 more bloggers in the next few weeks, when I’ve found my feet in blogland, and have a few other blogs that I’ll visit regularly. But I’ll start off today with awarding it to Big Cat’s Emporium for her wundabah concept Blogtoberfest!
So the idea is to display the award on your blog, and send it to 7 other deserving recipients!

Secondly, I thought I’d join in the Blogtoberfest spirit and have a couple of Vintage Button Giveaways!! The first is a lovely bunch of flower-themed vintage buttons mostly from the 1930s – 1950s. (Click pics to enlarge).
The second the two pictures below) is a cute lot of buttons for children, some vintage some not (the buttons that is!). They include some vintage ducks and fish from the 1950s, Czech glass smiley faces, the cutest little pencils, some great two-piece buttons – phones, strawberries, planes, cars – a 1950s card of hand-painted fish, and a few other bits and pieces.
Just leave a comment on this post and let me know which lot you would like. I’ll draw the random winners on 25th October. If one person wins both lots I’ll re-draw one lot to make it fair for everyone. So drop me a line – I’d really like to hear what you would use these for if you won.

Hi Ms Bowerbird, I’ve found your blog through Ms Hen, and what an amazing collection of buttons you have….buttons are one of those things that I have n the back of my mind to look for when I’m out op-shopping and seem to always forget. I love the flower themed vintage buttons, they are gorgeous just as they are, in one lovely colour coded jumble,though I think I would sew them all over a beret just like that! I’m looking forward to more visits here and to checking out your science as art blog roll!

If I was lucky enough to win a lovely lot of buttons…well, the kids one would of course go on some handknitted garmetns for my little ones, then probably onto a wall-hanging of some sort as a keepsake once they grew out of the knits. The others would need a little more thinking, and a little more blog-surfing for inspiration!
I’m looking, and these sites are blowing my mind…..remind me what a miraculous, beautiful, creative universe we are a part of. Thanks for listing them all here for perusal!

What cute kids buttons! I want those! I am not quite sure what I would use them for yet. I am into shadow boxes right now, so I might make some children’s themed shadow boxes and add them. Very strange! I added a comment and it’s not here now!?! That sometimes happens. Anyway, here goes again. I love the vintage buttons. I collect all manner of things from the 30’s (Including my house which was built in 1938!) Any way I am always on the lookout for lovely vintage buttons to use in my jewellery pieces particularly my crocheted pieces. If I was lucky enough to win I would gladly make you a necklace in your favourite colour. (I know you already crochet but I still think it’s nice to have something made by someone else!)

Ooh, the colours on those flower buttons are too good. They’re like candy! If I were a winner, I’d do a little dance, and then I’d sew some of them into the middle of fabric flowers to put all over old t-shirts. Glam. The rest I’d just hoard in a jar in the sunshine.

Hurray for Blogtoberfest! I can’t believe you have such amazing buttons and you’re giving them away! I really love the flower ones! I’ve been wanting to spice up some old cardigans and dress up some soft the sofites that I make.
The other buttons are great too, but I think they deserve to go to someone with a little boy or girl who can show them off at school! So just put me in the flower button draw!

I would lurve the 2nd pack of buttons and have my hot glue gun ready and waiting to turn them into hair clips for my daughter to match the dresses/outfits I make her
I think the pink areoplanes are my fave as my daughter has a fascination with planes and blows kisses whenever she sees one (the family joke that she will follow her aunty and become a flight attendant….im thinking maybe a pilot instead 🙂 )

I am addicted to buttons! I absolutely love the flower ones and (if I could bear to use them) I would put them on the dolls that I make, or put them onto a special wall hanging for my sewing room. Ain’t blog land fun?

Oh, Liz. These are wonderful. After I quit drooling over them, I would probably use them on cards and journals.
Gorgeous buttons and some raise some happy memories! If I had those, I think I would share the joy with my small grandchildren and perhaps make a hanging or even use them in some freeform knitting to pass down to others.

Hiya! I do love some Blogtoberfest. Buttons are a wonderful thing, I still haven’t trained myself out of eyeing them off for sewing into my dredlocks, even though I cut them off a year ago. Now I need to work on some other quality button uses. The children’s ones are great! Probably because I am a big big child.

oh dear! how in the world would one ever pick which bunch? they are both fabulous! the flowers are so pretty! and the little animals so sweet! if i won either set some would end up on clothes for my little girl, some on doll clothes and some on embelishments for embroidery projects.

I’ve been enjoying your button loveliness over in Flickr. I love the look of vintage buttons… they certainly don’t make such beauties anymore. I love the picture of the flower themed one. I love to embellish my garments and fabric handbags with buttons so that would probably be what I’d use them for.
I really adore the first lot of buttons! I collect vintage buttons as well, and also vintage patterns. I like to re-create 1940s fashion and sometimes embellish the clothing with vintage buttons. I also use vintage buttons in my various craft projects. What a great stash!

I love buttons. I have button mania. I use the ones I’ve collected to decorate bags and purses and also to embellish scrappy quilts. I also use the two hole buttons when jointing the arms and legs of my dolls. Even if I don’t win, whoever gets these beauties is a lucky ducky.
I’d choose the first set of buttons. I use them as pieces when I make pins and sometimes bracelets. If I won the children’s buttons I’d probably use them in scrapping & card making, or hair do-dads.
I LOVE LOVE buttons and I’d probably use them to make a buttonlet like the ones on my blog! 🙂 The vintage ones are the best!!!

Wow – pretty, pretty, pretty.
Some of them I would use to dress up boring cardigans, but I also like the idea of starting a “button sweater,” with cute buttons sewn on the front as pure decoration.

Wow! I love buttons. They are so much a part of our history that is, sadly, ignored.
I have used buttons on greeting cards and my daughter does a lot of sewing and knitting.
I am going to try making shell buttons out of pieces of sea shells that I collected this past spring while vacationing in North Carolina. What a beautiful beach that was and the shelling was fantastic.
