Blogtoberfest Day 1, I’m starting it off with a giveaway!

Well hasn’t October rolled around quickly this year. I think I’m still getting over last October, blogging every day for a month! Anyhoo, I thought I’d kick start the festival with a giveaway. Some of you may know that I own a vintage button business,  The Button Bower, www.thebuttonbower.com.

If you love vintage, this is THE place to go. There’s around 60 stalls of fab vintage stuff for sale. Check out the show’s website for more info:  http://www.lovevintage.com.au/

Blogtoberfest Day 19: and the winners are……

I’d like to say a big thankyou to everyone who entered my Blogtoberfest giveaways. I’ve really enjoyed reading your comments and finding out what you’d make with vintage buttons.

These lovelies will be going to a new home with Jemma at Amityvilleboronia:

And these will be going to Elizabeth at Bits of Sunshine.

Congratulations to you both! And I hope that you’ll send me a pic of anything you make with them – I’d love to see your creations!

There were 48 entrants for the flower button giveaway, and 20 for the children’s button giveaway. Since I don’t have any ‘little helpers’ to pick the winning numbers (and teenage boys don’t take a big interest in such things) I used a random number generator at random.org to pick the winners.

Blogtoberfest Day 13 and Blue Monday.

As promised I’m blogging about buttons every day in October to celebrate Blogtoberfest. So here’s a few more blue buttons from my stash:

Czech glass with rhinestones.            Iridescent pierced glass.

Czech glass dragonfly.                       The sweetest duck-egg blue

                                                              china whistle button

Pretty buffed celluloid heart.             Buffed plastic with a distinct

                                                             Japanese style.

For more Blue Monday goodies drop in to Smiling Sally’s!

If you haven’t already entered my Blogtoberfest giveaway, please see my earlier post here for a chance to win some beautiful vintage flower buttons or some childrens buttons.

I underestimated the power of the blogosphere – I thought it would take a couple of weeks to get lots of people to enter the giveaway, but I’ve had a great response in just 2 days. So why wait 2 weeks to draw the winner???? I’m going to pick the winner next Saturday night when I get home from the Vintage Clothing Fair! Thanks for all the lovely comments you’ve been leaving. There sure are a lot of uses for buttons and it’s great reading about your ideas. Good luck everyone!

Blogtoberfest Day 12 – Gettin’ ready for the fair…

Next weekend it’s the Vintage Clothing, Jewellery and Textiles Fair at Canterbury Racecourse in Sydney, organised by the lovely Janel Morrissey. More than 60 exhibitors will be there selling all kinds of vintage fashion goodies, and of course we’ll be there selling vintage buttons and buckles. Here’s some of our wares:

1920’s Art Deco celluloid buttons

Beautiful bakelite buckles and dress clips

More lovely buckles and clasps

Even more buckles, plus some cards of 1930s buttons, AND there’s a whole lot more!

It’s a great day out, with vintage fashion parades, swing dancing, hairstyle and makeup a la 1940’s (Victory rolls, girls!), prizes for best dressed in vintage,  and a demonstration of bobbin lace making by my friend Sumedha. So if you’re in the area, why not pop in – don’t forget to say hi. Our shop is called the Button Bower and we’ll be somewhere near the stage!

Blogtoberfest Day 10 – An unexpected award AND a vintage button giveaway…

Firstly, I’m honoured to have received an award from my fellow mad scientist Ulixis. I’ve only been blogging for a few weeks, so this is a real thrill! I will pass it on to 7 more bloggers in the next few weeks, when I’ve found my feet in blogland, and have a few other blogs that I’ll visit regularly. But I’ll start off today with awarding it to Big Cat’s Emporium for her wundabah concept Blogtoberfest!

So  the idea is to display the award on your blog, and send it to 7 other deserving recipients!

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

Secondly, I thought I’d join in the Blogtoberfest spirit and have a couple of Vintage Button Giveaways!! The first is a lovely bunch of flower-themed vintage buttons mostly from the 1930s – 1950s. (Click pics to enlarge).

The second the two pictures below) is a cute lot of buttons for children, some vintage some not (the buttons that is!). They include some vintage ducks and fish from the 1950s, Czech glass smiley faces, the cutest little pencils, some great two-piece buttons – phones, strawberries, planes, cars – a 1950s card of hand-painted fish, and a few other bits and pieces.

Just leave a comment on this post and let me know which lot you would like. I’ll draw the random winners on 25th October. If one person wins both lots I’ll re-draw one lot to make it fair for everyone. So drop me a line – I’d really like to hear what you would use these for if you won.

PS. I’m happy to post these overseas.

BLOG UPDATE: Oh wow! I’ve just worked out how to put images in my sidebar! Now all I have to do is work out how to make them link back to that particular site and I’ll be really chuffed!!!
